Nowadays, technological advances have made audio and video recordings of daily activities very easy and inexpensive. For example, every time we go to the bank, mall, convenient stores, or any public places, we are constantly being monitored and recorded on video.
Studies have shown that most patients forget more than 50% of the information and instructions given to them by their physician during the time they reach home from the doctor’s office. This leads to errors in patient understanding and decreases compliance with treatment.
We recommend that every patient/doctor interaction in medical office and in the hospital should be recorded on audio and video. At the end of the visit, the patient can take the recording with him, which may not cost more than 50 cents. This information will be homework for the patient. It can be reviewed by the patient as many times as he wants, so that he can digest his doctor’s instructions properly and thoroughly. Consequently, patient compliance to the treatment given by his provider will increase significantly, which will result in tremendous improvement in patient care and success rate of the treatment.
